The surroundings of freshwater biomes affect the freshwater biomes itself.
Some lakes are large enough to produce waves.
During winter time some smaller lakes can possibly freeze over, but not entirely.

Lakes that are large enough will not freeze to solid ice, but the top layer could freeze. If the top layer of water freezes over and is thick enough, it can block sunlight, which can prevent photosynthesis, therefore possibly killing plants and animals that live in the lake which is referred to as "A Winter Kill".
I'm doing a project for science about freshwater biome and i think this needs to be more specific.
